Christmas in Japan

Christmas Cake

Along with Danielle’s christmas wish we also thought we should show you some pictures of how our christmas day went.
On Christmas eve we spent the day by taking a long walk around Gifu and running a couple of errands. The last of which was picking up our christmas cake. One of the big christmas traditions here is christmas cake. Which all look a little something like that picture up top. Strawberries and a mini marzipan santa are mandatory!

We finished the night by continuing one of my families traditions. Danielle bought me the night before christmas, in japanese. (So not actually the night before christmas at all, but Kurisutomasu no mae no ban.) We struggled through together reading it aloud first in japanese then also in english. We, of course, finished the night by eating some cake.

We woke up bright and early this morning to open presents. Danielle got me ipod touch. It should be useful, as we can use it to send emails if we can find some free wi-fi access. I am really looking forward to loading it up with videos for our flight to bali and our 6 hour layover in Seoul. I got danielle a shiny new pink nintendo DS to occupy her time during the trip.

Lastly, here are a couple more pictures of our christmas decor. A poinsettia and a “grow your own crystal tree” which was a present from my parents.

Merry christmas everyone, and a happy new year. See you all after we get back from bali.
