Osaka Castle
Right after we got off the train in Osaka, we wanted to spend some time sightseeing while it was still light out. The first, natural, place to go was the castle, of course. So, we found a locker for our luggage, hopped on the subway, and made our way over to Osaka castle.
Since we visited Osaka castle before visiting Himeji-jo, it seemed quite impressive. But, now, in hindsight, it was only slightly better than Gifu Castle. Okay, that is probably not fair, it was a lot more impressive than Gfiu castle, but much less than Himeji-jo.
Of course, this castle also had a moat. And apparently, in the springtime, this view is filled with cherry blossoms. That would be something to see!
And it was fun to admire the different angles and perspectives as we walked around.
But, unlike Himeji-jo, Osaka castle was a bit more commercial. Surrounding the castle were a number of these cardboard cutouts to take photos with. In addition there were souvenir shops and snack stands. Once we mustered the courage to ask a fellow tourists to take our picture, we all jumped at the opportunity!
We were still wandering around the castle grounds when the sun began to set. The new shade of the light on the castle was stunning. And it should be, about ten years ago Osaka-jo received a 7 billion yen facelift. After 7 billion yen, just about anything would be stunning.
Yes. Cherry blossoms in spring would be something to see.
