Most shrines sell Ema, votive tablets, on which you can write personal prayers and offer gratitude toward the deities. The Ema are then offered at a morning ceremony each day for supplication by the priests.

Prayer Card

I have always wanted to purchase one of these votives, but never knew exactly what I would write on it. But, on Sunday, the day before Jen was scheduled to be induced, I knew exactly what I wanted to pray for.

Josh, Jen, and Madeleine

And, lo and behold, prayers do get answered. Here are Josh and Jen, holding our newest niece. Niece #5. The delivery was smooth and the baby is healthy.

Welcome to the world, Madeleine Lilly. Even though we are half a world away, we love you more than words could ever say.
