Big Noise

A few weeks ago I received a revised schedule at work. Four days of school during the last two weeks of October were cancelled for students. Even though classes are cancelled for students, teachers still have to show up. Figures!!

The schedule didn’t really, entirely, explain why the classes were cancelled. Except, across the top of the schedule were the four dates along with the words, “Big Noise.”

I was completely confused, but now that one of the “big noise” has passed, it is perfectly clear.

When one of the school buildings is being torn down, it makes a big noise.

Demolition

Over the next two years, two of the school buildings will be torn down and rebuilt. They are rather old, and were no longer meeting standards for earthquake protection.

Since classes cannot be held in a demolished building, they have erected a temporary building on another part of the school property.

Temporary Building

Next fall, the classes currently in the the temporary building will move into the new school building and the other building will move into the temporary building and the process will repeat. Should be quite interesting!
