Mino Lantern Festival

Lantern 14

As Aaron mentioned, last weekend we went to the Mino Lantern Festival. Mino is a small city located in Gifu that is famous for its’ paper. Each year, Mino hosts a lantern making competition and festival. This year, more than 700 lanterns were on display (including the one above made by Chisako, a Japanese doll making teacher, and other JETs).

Each lantern, individually, was unique and different, a work of art. But, when they were grouped together, lining the streets of downtown Mino, the result was magical.

It was amazing to see all the time and effort that went into producing these lanterns. And it was so much fun to see so many people out, appreciating the beauty of the lanterns and the fall evening.
