Birthday party

Birthday Cake!

So as Danielle was so kind to point out last week on her side it was my birthday on the second. The day it self was fun, but a little bitter sweet. Danielle got me a go board and stones, so now I can play at home. Also, since my parents sent me my go books, and I can study up, someday I will defeat the girls in my schools go club! The other high point of the day was when a student in one of my classes remembered my birthday. I walked in and he clapped pointed and yelled “Happi berthuday” However, I was a bit sad being so far away from the people I would usually celebrate with.

The real day of celebration was, however, friday.

We went out to Eiji’s, the yakitori place I mentioned earlier. It was a fun night of sitting, drinking, and eating asparabacon. It was quite fun, Danielle got me a cake and all of the gathered ALT’s sang me happy birthday. This had the effect of notifying the entire street that it was my birthday. We had japanese business men walking up to us all night to wish me a happy birthday.

One pair of japanese business men in the bar next door to the place we were at, who were also sitting outside, even bought me a beer. Then they started chanting “Ichi, Ni, Ichi, Ni” which is apparently the japanese counterpart to the american “Chug, Chug, Chug.” What could I do? I obliged and they laughed and applauded.

Not long later I wove my way into the bar, (because there was people in the way, it had nothing to do with the beer… Honest!) Once I was standing by the door to the toilet, another japanese business man came up to me wishing me a happy birthday, and wanting to thumb-wrestle. I kid you not, Thumb-Wrestle. Once again I obliged, to much hooting and hollering of his buddies. Thing is, the guy cheated! Not long into the match he pulled out his index finger to try and pin me down, I called him on it and eventually won. Once again much to the pleasure of his buddies.

Most of the rest of the night was chatting with various people and hanging out. It was a pretty good time, all in all.
