Festival Food
One of the best things about going to festivals, in any country, is the wide variety of festival foods to eat and enjoy. While Japanese festival foods are a little different than those in America, they are just as unhealthy and delicious.
When we attended the Seki Sharp Things Festival and the Mino Paper Lantern Festival, I enjoyed the festival foods as much as the actual festival. There is always such variety and color in the food stands.
The picture, at the top of the post, is a takoyaki stand. Takoyaki is a traditional Japanese festival food consisting of octopus inside a batter with vegetables. They are delicious!
There was also fish on a stick.
And Okonomiyaki, as mentioned previously in one of Aaron’s posts.
And this vendor was selling little, tiny fishes. You could go to his stand and get a bag filled with little, dried, salted fishes to munch on. Kind of like chips.
There was also enough sweet food to keep everyone happy. I loved the little crepe stand. You can choose what type of filling you want in your crepe, and I chose ichigo (strawberry). It was delicious!
A smorgasbord of sights, sounds, flavors and smells. So much stimulation in just one day meant we spent the next two days resting, relaxing and recovering.
wow, this post is from the future
now if there was only a way to batter all those things together…
So I see okonomiyaki, but I see no cuttlefish coin.
*disappointed*
No cuttlefish coin, no deep-fried Snickers bars ….. they call this a festival?
Mmmmm….tempura-batter, deep-fried cuttlefish coin on a stick (with a side of mayo).
It’s on my list!
