Care Package
Yesterday, in the middle of the day at work, I received our first, unsolicited, care package.
This one came from Jill-san and was filled with goodies that made our day! Actually, the goodies started with the crumpled up newspaper in the picture above. That is the Tempo Section from the Chicago Tribune. It is filled with comics and crosswords and is providing enjoyment beyond that of being a packing material.
Once I moved the newspaper aside, the real treat began. There was a Schoolhouse Rock postcard.
Stickers and buttons from two of our most missed indulgences – beer and derby.
Newspaper clippings of important stories from back home.
And, no care package would be complete without, FOOD!!
There is a special, squishy place in my heart for Peeps, and I am relieved that I will not be deprived this Halloween.
I opened the package in the staff room, while teachers were crowded around my desk anxious to find out what I had been sent from America. Trying to explain Peeps, without sharing, proved interesting. And then, I had to explain the derby article. Fun times!
Thank you Jill-san and Ben-san. Can’t wait to see you when you get here in a few weeks.
